We ran Stock Market Challenge today.  It was absolutely brilliant! One of the best activities that our school has run.

We ran the event with a group of Gifted and Talented students from years 9, 10 and 11.  They worked in teams featuring students from different year groups. The activity was based in one of our large classrooms over 3 hours and the stock market displayed using a projector. The resources were easy to use and set up.

The kids loved it. It was a great way to use and develop their enterprise skills such as working in teams and dealing with money, what I liked in particular was that it gave them an opportunity to manage risk and uncertainty which is a difficult enterprise skill to get into lessons.

In our evaluation 89% of the students said it had helped them practice their maths skills. Over 90% said that the activity had developed their team-working and decision-making skills.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the full experience but my highlight would have been the fierce competition between the rival teams and the tense atmosphere in the room. I enjoyed the fast pace we worked at.”

Aoibheann Harkin, Pupil, Thornhill College

"There was such a buzz at the Stock Market Challenge. If a team was looking for something that is fun to do and related to financial services then this is a really good opportunity. I would encourage people to do it."

Kathryn McGown, Human Resources Consultant, Standard Life

"A very useful tool especially for lessons on finance, the stock market and PLCs.  Pupils really enjoyed the experience and even asked to stay beyond the end of period to continue trading!"

Clare Campbell, Business Education Teacher, Ayr Academy, South Ayrshire

"From entry level through to Masters programmes it gives students an understanding of the financial markets and creates an opportunity for them to test their skills and see how they work under pressure. It gives a reality which develops all sorts of entrepreneurial skills."

Lesley Hyder, Principal Lecturer, Southampton Business School
