First Campus, University of Wales Institute, Cardiff

First Campus has been using the Stock Market Challenge every year since its inception in 2003.  First Campus is a collaborative educational initiative consisting of all the Higher and Further education institutions in South East Wales funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW).  The aim is to help raise educational standards and make a significant contribution to the Welsh Assembly Government targets for Reaching Wider.

Through collaboration the project runs a series of exciting and challenging activities for a wide cross section of pupils at Key Stage 2, 3 and 4. Our aim is to make sure all activities fully complement the curriculum, enrich studies, encourage participation and are enjoyable for all participants.   Stock Market Challenge always ticks every box!

Stock Market Challenge gets such good feedback year on year and we’re now looking to make it part of a larger project. The Business Academy has been designed to support students studying business at GCSE level and will offer assistance for those looking to complete the intermediate Welsh Baccalaureate.  First Campus will be using the Dealing Room version of the game as part of a ‘business taster day’ used in the lead up to the annual inter-schools Stock Market Challenge event.   Year 10 pupils from secondary schools across the region will get an introduction to the stock market and an opportunity to experience the game and develop their skills before representing their school at the main event.

Shanead Friel, Head of Business Education, St. Columba's High School, Clydebank

“I went to the Stock Market Challenge hoping to learn about investments and the pressurized atmosphere of the stock exchange. I ended up having one of the best evenings since I've been at university. It was a frantic and testing event, but it was absolutely thrilling!”

Munro Stewart, Student, University of Dundee

"We have found Stock Market Challenge to be an excellent resource. Our Year 10 Enterprise Day link-up with the GCSE English ‘Speaking and Listening’ assessment makes for a enthralling and rigorous day for the boys."
