In June 50 students from Morpeth School in Tower Hamlets played the Dealing Room game at the renowned Cass Business School as part of the Financial Services Skills Council careers initiative.
The students were asked to complete an evaluation. The findings revealed that almost all of the students found the Dealing Room game very useful in helping to understand the skills needed to enter a career in financial services. This is what some of the students had to say:
“It was good fun and it helped me because I know how financial trading works now.”
“Interesting and good, I want to be a trader or an accountant. Thank you for this opportunity.”
“The Dealing Room game was great fun, it was the best part of the day.”
Maria Gretchen Garcia, Maths Teacher at Morpeth School, said “We found the Dealing Room game to be an excellent way of introducing pupils to the world of finance and all our pupils found the day extremely interesting and enjoyable. Our pupils used their reasoning, logic and mathematical skills to buy and sell shares with the purpose of making a profit. Pupils made links between the demand, the supply and the price of a share. This activity enabled pupils to use their mathematical skills in a real life situation. It was excellent!”

“We use Stock Market Challenge in our first year BA Accounting & Finance course to help develop students' academic and employability skills, in particular communication, teamwork and numeracy. Student feedback has demonstrated that it makes an invaluable contribution to their self-development.”
Helen Hall, Programme Tutor, Accounting & Finance, University of Hertfordshire
The program is superb. It works for all ages at secondary and all ability levels and the pupils are completely engrossed in the experience. It teaches all pupils about the way the world of finance works in a fun and easily accessible way.
David Davidson, Maths Teacher, Kircudbright Academy
"From entry level through to Masters programmes it gives students an understanding of the financial markets and creates an opportunity for them to test their skills and see how they work under pressure. It gives a reality which develops all sorts of entrepreneurial skills."
Lesley Hyder, Principal Lecturer, Southampton Business School
“Thank you for allowing us to take part in the Enterprise Network competition. The students thoroughly enjoyed it and continue to ask when they can do it again! Which is a credit to you and your colleagues who have produced a fantastic package."
