St Edward’s School in Poole rings the trading bell to launch new website

To mark the launch of the new website 30 Year 12 Economics students from St. Edward's High School in Poole took part in an competitive and challenging lesson using Stock Market Challenge led by Business Studies teachers Deirbhle O’Neill and Colin Kilpatrick.

The focus of the session was to teach the difference between Private and Public Limited Companies, and then to analyse the impact of external and internal factors on the price of shares and exchange rates.

Colin said, “The anticipation of this exciting acitivity was enough to give a heightened level of concentration. The impact on their learning was immediate and their progression superb. I told them to leave for break mid-way through and was completely ignored!”

St. Edward’s is a joint Roman Catholic - Church of England VA school, one of just a few nationally. As a small comprehensive school, the school is able to provide a learning community which allows relationships of the highest quality to be built between teachers, students, parents and governors.

"We have found Stock Market Challenge to be an excellent resource. Our Year 10 Enterprise Day link-up with the GCSE English ‘Speaking and Listening’ assessment makes for a enthralling and rigorous day for the boys."

Peter Sunley, Head of Economics and Business Studies, Queen Mary’s Grammar School, Walsall

We used it with three different Business Management classes. All of them really enjoyed it and took it very seriously, whilst having fun.  It is invaluable.

Dorothy Ferguson, Business Education Teacher, Knox Academy, East Lothian

"There’s a lot in the resource for children at Key Stage 2 in regard to personal development. But it also has a big impact in terms of applying their literacy and numeracy skills. I would highly recommend it."

Andrew Buxton, Headteacher, King Edward Primary School, Doncaster

"I just wanted to say a massive thank you! The Stock Market Challenge was an absolutely huge success. It has been the talk of the school. All the staff involved were incredibly impressed with the session. More importantly, the kids were totally engaged, even those who may not be when in lessons! The day was a great success."
